Upon completing several of my highly representational still lifes, I find the thought of embarking upon an abstract painting as an antidote to the tightness of the format.  It allows me to loosen up and get my creativity going.  I love abstract expressionism particularly when it is based on a landscape or some physical space or form.  The Painter’s 11 group from Canada had a influence on me while studying Canadian art at UWO in the ‘80s, particularly William Ronald (with his Prime Minister series), Tom Hodgson and early Jack Bush works.  Since being in London, I have found artists like Peter Joyce, Paul Feiler, Indian artist, Ram Kumar, German artist, Georg Baselitz and Irish artist, Sean Scully, each very unique, but with elements I love.

The following are my interpretations of some of these artists’ works, followed by my own recent work.
